The last months of 2010 went by so quick! Only two more weeks and then we are celebrating Chinese New Year, together with my parents. We're looking forward to their arrival!
The last few months were more or less the same as earlier months, but I'm enjoying my life together with Jennifer so much. It's wonderful to have someone to share life with. I'm surely a lucky man. A few events from the last months in a nutshell: we went to Kyoto, Japan for a long weekend, we had friends over for Christmas and we went on a small hiking trip with my parents in law. Besides some special events, I'm still enjoying teaching English and learning Chinese. The writing part is actually a lot of fun, even though it takes a lot of time and the progress is slower than I wished.
Kyoto
Last December we finally had a few days to spare to go on a short holiday! We decided to go to Kyoto for three days. Jennifer never been there before, so it was fun to show her around a little bit. Japan is always wonderful for traveling. Kyoto is especially nice for its historical athmosphere. Lots of temples, wooden houses and Geisha walking around. We were lucky to run into some Maiko (apprentice Geisha) and took some pictures with them. For an impression of our trip you can see the photos on Facebook: Photos Kyoto
I added some random photos from the last months below. With every picture you'll find some small notes. I'll already wish you all a happy Chinese New Year. May the year of the rabbit bring you all good fortune and happiness. Until my next blog!
A short visit to the International Flora Expo. It is opened for a bit over a half year. They did a wonderful job, it looks amazing. Especially if you know that only a short time ago there was almost nothing in this area. On the photo you can see the Taiwanese area, one of my favorite spots.
I went for a short bike ride with Tyler to and around Xindian. One moment you are cycling in the city, the next moment you find yourself surrounded by nature. It still amazes me every time.
After a short but steep ride, we had a wonderful view over Xindian. It took us twenty minutes to get up, roughly two to get down...
Our last evening in Kyoto. We were looking for a nice place to get some dinner and found a restaurant on a stone throwing distance from our hotel. Great food, nice sake and sochu and a typical Japanese atmosphere.
Wintertime = hotpot time! Jennifer prepared some hotpot at our own apartment. Basically it's soup or bouillon with some lettuce, mushrooms and tofu. You can also add some egg, fish or meat if you want, or some extra spices and chili. Any way you like it... We used a pan where half is a miso based soup, the other half some left over pumpkin soup. Together with some "hello kitty" shaped ingredients it looks like a feast.
January 1st we went to a short mountain trail near Dahu Park. Together with Jennifers's parents and her sisters. A short, but surprisingly nice route.
On our way to the top, we stumbled upon a small shrine with a small Buddha figurine. The character behind the statue means "Buddha".
At the top of the trail we had a wonderful view over Taipei city and the Taipei 101.
Another view, not as clear on the picture, but the sunlight breaking through the sky was amazing!

Our apartment. Everytime I come home I feel so at ease. It's always nice to stay home on a lazy rainy Saturday like today. Updating my weblog, making some small bites, reading... :-)
