Friends & Fun

One year in Taiwan. Apart from being in a new country I also made a lot of new friends. Friends I will miss for sure when we will move abroad again. But then again, good friends are always there, even if you are not near. It's nice to get to know more and more people. It does make the world feel smaller.

Below a quick overview on some people I met who became good friends.

OK, not a friend, but just a fun picture. This is a submarine. A beer with a glass of tequila dropped inside. This drink we ordered at Roxy Roots. One of the few laid-back places in the Taipei 101 area where you don't have to dress up.

The American Ass. Or Scott for intimi. A former fellow teacher at Happy Marian.

Tyler and Chris. Both fellow students from Chinese class. Tyler and I are now studying together. We share a passion for cycling (even though my knee sometimes thinks differently) and a good conversation once in a while.

The TLI gang. TLI is where we all met learning Chinese. In this picture are Tom (the crazy English bastard with a memory like cheese with holes ;-), Tyler, Chris, our teacher and Joshua. People missing in the picture are Junko (now living in Hong Kong) and Jason.

Having dinner with 15 persons for Joshua's birthday party.

In this picture: Cindy, Jennifer and me. Cindy is an old friend from Jennifer whom she met in The Netherlands. We were having dinner at Kampai. A Japanese grill / beer house. Lots of fun with some friends! You can order the dishes you want and you have to grill them yourself.

Jared, Cindy and Jennifer. Still at Kampai. Jared was visiting Taipei for two days on his way to Europe.

I met Jared when I was traveling in Japan in 2007 / 2008 (Check blogs and pictures from that trip in the archives on this weblog). Later he decided to live in The Netherlands for one year. Funny how you meet people and run in to them later.

This picture is taken at Taipei Story Land. They recreated Taipei in 1940 - 1980. It's funny to be able to buy to "old" candy and see the toys from 1980. I even recognized a lot of toys from my own childhood! Everything back then was "Made in Taiwan" :-)

It's nice to be able to live in a new country and do a lot of fun things. But it's even more fun when you get to do all those things with the person you want to share the rest of your life with... I'm a lucky man!
